Install PARANOIDANDROID v3.97 ROM on Galaxy S3 I9300 Jelly Bean

How to Flash/Install PARANOIDANDROID v3.97 ROM on Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 Jelly Bean Custom ROM/Firmware. PARANOIDANDROID v3.97 ROM is based on AOSP Android 4.3 which changes the User Interface of your Galaxy S3 to that of Google Nexus devices. I have written several important tips that you must keep in mind before proceeding towards installation and make sure that you read each and every step of this Tutorial very carefully. We don’t want our Galaxy S3 to get bricked. Right? Let’s start.

Important Tips:
  • This tutorial is only for installing PARANOIDANDROID v3.97 ROM on Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300. Please do not try on any other Galaxy S III variants.
  • Your phone should be rooted and have ClockworkMod recovery installed from before > How to Root Samsung Galaxy S3
  • This tutorial will wipe out all your data. Proceed at your own risk.
  • Perform a Dalvik Cache wipe before proceeding from the recovery mode.
  • Samsung KIES will NOT detect your phone after installing this ROM because it is a custom firmware.
  • Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.

If you are used to installing custom roms on your Galaxy S3, then this should not be any different for you. However, for beginners, it is recommended that you read the whole tutorial before installing this ROM on your device.

How to Install PARANOIDANDROID v3.97 ROM on Galaxy S3 I9300 Jelly Bean Custom ROM:

Step 1 – Download the above mentioned files for Galaxy S3 to your computer or download it directly to your phone.
Step 2 – Connect and mount your Galaxy S3 USB memory on your computer using the USB cable.
Step 3 – Now copy/paste the downloaded pa_i9300-3.97-20130818.zip and Google Apps files to your SD card. Make sure the files are in the SD card root (not in any folder).
Step 4 – Then turn OFF your phone and disconnect from the USB cable.
Step 5 – Now to get in the Recovery Mode. Switch ON the phone while pressing and holding Volume Up + Home + Power buttons together.

Step 6 – Once you are in ClockworkMod Recovery, select perform a full data wipe by selecting “wipe data/factory reset” as shown below. Use the Power button to select everything while in the Recovery Mode.

Step 7 – Then, perform a cache wipe by selecting “wipe cache partition” as you can see in the image below.

Step 8 – Now this is optional, but it is recommended to perform a wipe of your dalvik cache as well. You will not get into boot loops or any other errors. From CWM recovery, go to ‘advanced’ and then select “wipe dalvik cache”.

Step 9 – Then go back to the main recovery screen and select “install zip from SD card”.

Step 10 – Now select “choose zip from sdcard” as shown below. Using your volume keys, navigate to the pa_i9300-3.97-20130818.zip file that you copied to your SD card and select it using the Power button. Setup will start now.

Note: To install Google Apps, follow the same procedure as given in Step 9 and Step 10.
Step 11 – After the installation completes, Reboot your phone by selecting “Reboot system now” from ClockworkMod Recovery menu as shown in the picture below. It might take a couple of minutes on first boot. So, be patient.

Note: If your device’s NFC doesn’t work, then Download this NFCFix.zip File, paste it in your Galaxy S3 and flash it using ClockworkMod Recovery.
That’s it! Your Galaxy S3 should now have PARANOIDANDROID v3.97 Jelly Bean custom ROM installed on your phone! Go to Settings > More > About Device to verify. Let me know if you had any problem during the installation process.
